How it works
- Tell us what’s going on. Choose your certificate, then tell us what you’re unable to attend (work, school, uni, TAFE, child care, travel or an event), the first day, how many days you need, and your symptoms. You pay when you submit.
- Speak with a clinician. An AHPRA-registered clinician phones you to talk through your symptoms. Calls may come from a private number, so please don’t block private or unknown callers.
- Get your certificate. If the clinician decides a certificate is appropriate, it’s emailed to you as a PDF to forward to your employer, school or university. If it hasn’t arrived, check your spam folder.

Is My Telehealth Clinic legitimate?
Yes. My Telehealth Clinic is an Australian telehealth service run by My Telehealth Medical Services Pty Ltd (ABN 86 667 533 388), based in Queensland. Every certificate is issued by an AHPRA-registered nurse practitioner or doctor after a phone assessment. You can check any clinician’s registration on the public register at ahpra.gov.au.
Will my employer accept a certificate from My Telehealth Clinic?
Most employers accept a medical certificate from a registered health practitioner, but we can’t guarantee any particular employer will. The Fair Work Act only requires evidence that would satisfy a reasonable person; it doesn’t name a type of practitioner. Some awards, enterprise agreements and workplace policies set their own rules, so check yours if you’re unsure. Your employer may also ask to verify the certificate (see below).
Can my employer ask for a medical certificate for just one day off?
Yes. Under section 107 of the Fair Work Act 2009, your employer can ask for evidence for any sick or carer’s leave, even a single day. The evidence must satisfy a reasonable person that the leave was genuine. A medical certificate or a statutory declaration are common examples. Your award or agreement may set extra rules. Which certificate should I choose?
Choose the 1–2 day certificate ($24.95) if you need one or two days off. Choose the multi-day certificate ($34.95) for 3 to 10 days. If you’re unsure how long you’ll need, choose the shorter option. If you’re still unwell when it ends, you can request a new certificate or book a telehealth consult.
How many days can a medical certificate cover?
Our certificates cover 1 to 10 days: one or two days on the 1–2 day certificate, and 3 to 10 days on the multi-day certificate. If you need more than 10 days, book a telehealth consult or see your GP so your condition can be properly reviewed.
Can I get a medical certificate online without speaking to anyone?
No. Every request is assessed by an AHPRA-registered nurse practitioner or doctor, who phones you for a short telehealth assessment of your symptoms before deciding whether a certificate is appropriate. That conversation is part of good clinical practice, and it’s what makes the certificate a genuine medical record.
How fast will I get my certificate, and what are your hours?
Most requests are reviewed within 30 minutes during opening hours: 7am–9pm, 7 days a week including public holidays, Brisbane time. This is an average, not a guarantee, and waits can be longer at busy times. Requests made outside opening hours are reviewed when we next open. If your certificate is approved, it’s emailed as a PDF.
How much does it cost, and can I claim it on Medicare?
A 1–2 day certificate costs $24.95 and a multi-day certificate costs $34.95. There’s no card surcharge: the price shown is the price you pay. Medical certificates are a private service: they aren’t bulk billed, and Medicare doesn’t cover them, so there’s no rebate. You pay when you submit your request.
Is there a free way to get a medical certificate?
Not through My Telehealth Clinic. Our certificates are a private, paid service. Some GP clinics bulk bill consultations, and a certificate may be provided as part of that visit. Depending on your workplace rules, a statutory declaration may also be accepted as evidence.
What appears on the medical certificate?
Your certificate shows your name, the date or dates you’re unfit for work or study, the date it was issued, and the issuing clinician’s name, qualification and Medicare provider number, along with our clinic details. Your symptoms only appear if you choose that option on the form; by default they’re left off.
How can my employer check that a certificate is genuine?
Employers can confirm a certificate by contacting us through our Contact page, with your consent. Anyone can also check the issuing clinician’s registration on the public register at ahpra.gov.au.
Can I get a backdated medical certificate?
Only with supporting evidence. Your certificate is always dated on the day the clinician writes it. If you were unwell on earlier days, the clinician can include those days only if you have supporting evidence, such as a hospital discharge summary, pathology results or notes from an earlier consultation, and they’re satisfied it’s clinically appropriate. Can I get a certificate for carer's leave?
Yes. In the symptom details on the form, say that you need the certificate as a carer and who you’re caring for, and the clinician will ask about them on the call. Carer’s leave is for when you need to care for or support an immediate family or household member who is sick, injured or affected by an unexpected emergency (Fair Work Act s97). Can I use a certificate for uni or TAFE special consideration?
Often, but check your institution’s rules first. Many universities and TAFEs accept a certificate from a registered health practitioner, but some require their own form or set rules about when you must be assessed. If your institution needs its own form, mention it when you request a certificate. The clinician can complete it at no extra cost if a certificate is clinically appropriate. Can I get a medical certificate for a mental health day?
Yes, you can request a certificate if you’re too unwell to work or study because of your mental health. The clinician will talk with you about how you’re feeling and decide whether a certificate is clinically appropriate. If you’re in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call 000 or Lifeline on 13 11 14.
Can I get a medical certificate for my child?
Children under 16 need a telehealth consult rather than a certificate request. Book a telehealth consult for your child, with a parent or guardian present, and the clinician can provide a certificate during the consult if it’s clinically appropriate.
What happens if the clinician can't issue a certificate?
If the clinician decides a certificate isn’t clinically appropriate, they’ll explain why and what to do next. For example, they may say your symptoms need an in-person assessment, or that the dates you asked for can’t be supported. The fee covers your clinical assessment, so it isn’t refunded just because a certificate wasn’t issued. This doesn’t affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
What can't a medical certificate from My Telehealth Clinic be used for?
Our certificates can’t be used to avoid police bail conditions or court attendance. If you’re seriously unwell or think your life is at risk, call 000.
Is a telehealth assessment suitable for my illness?
Telehealth suits short-term illnesses that don’t need a physical examination. If the clinician thinks you need to be examined in person, they’ll tell you and suggest seeing your GP. In an emergency, call 000.
Do I need a Medicare card?
No. You don’t need a Medicare card, because medical certificates aren’t bulk billed. You’ll need your name, date of birth, email, mobile number and payment details, plus information about your symptoms and the days you need.
