Fast, Easy and Secure Medical Certificates, Australia-wide.
What you get for $24.95
- A phone assessment with an AHPRA-registered nurse practitioner or doctor
- If appropriate, a medical certificate covering 1 or 2 days, emailed as a PDF
- Your symptoms left off the certificate unless you ask for them to be included
- There’s no card surcharge: the price shown is the price you pay. No Medicare card needed.
How it works
- Complete the form with what you’re unable to attend, the first day, whether you need 1 or 2 days, and your symptoms. You pay when you submit.
- Take the call. A clinician phones you, possibly from a private number, so keep your phone nearby and don’t block unknown callers.
- Receive your certificate. If it’s approved, your certificate arrives by email. Check your spam folder if you can’t see it.
The clinician decides whether a certificate is clinically appropriate, so one isn’t issued for every request.
Good to know
- For: short illnesses that keep you off work, school, uni, TAFE or child care, or stop you travelling or attending an event.
- Not for: emergencies (call 000), or police bail or court attendance.
- Longer recovery? The multi-day certificate covers 3 to 10 days. For anything longer, book a telehealth consult or see your GP.
A certificate is only issued if the clinician decides it is clinically appropriate. Review times are averages during opening hours (7am–9pm, 7 days a week including public holidays, Brisbane time) and aren’t guaranteed. Medical certificates aren’t covered by Medicare. There’s no card surcharge: the price shown is the price you pay. In an emergency, call 000.
Can I get a medical certificate for just one day?
Yes. Choose 1 day on the form. Your employer is allowed to ask for evidence even for a single day off: section 107 of the Fair Work Act 2009 lets them request evidence for any period of sick or carer’s leave, as long as the request is reasonable. Read more about when your employer can ask for a medical certificate.
Can I get a medical certificate online for today?
Yes. That’s the most common request. The form sets the first day to today. Submit during opening hours (7am–9pm, 7 days a week including public holidays, Brisbane time) and most requests are reviewed within 30 minutes. If a certificate is approved, it’s emailed to you the same day.
Can I get a medical certificate for yesterday?
Only with supporting evidence, and it can’t be guaranteed. Your certificate is always dated on the day the clinician writes it. It can cover yesterday only if you have supporting evidence, for example hospital or pathology records or notes from an earlier consultation, and the clinician is satisfied it’s clinically reasonable. See our guide to backdated medical certificates. Read more about getting a medical certificate for yesterday.
Is an online medical certificate the same as a doctor's certificate?
People often call it a doctor’s certificate or a doctor’s note. Our certificates are medical certificates issued by an AHPRA-registered nurse practitioner or doctor after a telehealth assessment. The Fair Work Act doesn’t say evidence must come from a doctor, but some awards or employers do, so check your workplace rules if you’re unsure.
Will my employer accept an online medical certificate?
Usually, but no service can guarantee it. Under the Fair Work Act, the evidence must satisfy a reasonable person that your leave was genuine. A medical certificate from a registered health practitioner is a common way to do that. Your award, agreement or workplace policy may set extra requirements.
How quickly will I get my certificate?
Most requests are reviewed within 30 minutes during opening hours: 7am–9pm, 7 days a week including public holidays, Brisbane time. That’s an average, not a promise. Waits can be longer when we’re busy. Requests made after hours are reviewed when we next open. Once a certificate is approved, it’s emailed to you as a PDF.
Will someone call me?
Yes. An AHPRA-registered clinician phones you to talk through your symptoms before deciding on a certificate. Calls may come from a private or unknown number, so please make sure your phone accepts them. If the clinician can’t reach you, they may not be able to issue a certificate.
What will my 1–2 day medical certificate say?
It shows your name, the date or dates you’re unfit for work or study (one or two days), the date it was issued, the clinician’s name, qualification and Medicare provider number, and our clinic details. Your symptoms are only included if you choose that on the form.
How can my employer check my certificate?
Employers can confirm a certificate by contacting us through our Contact page, with your consent. They can also confirm the issuing clinician’s registration on the public register at ahpra.gov.au.
What if I need more than 2 days off?
Request the multi-day medical certificate instead. It covers 3 to 10 days and costs $34.95. The 1–2 day certificate can’t be stretched past two days. If you need more than 10 days, book a telehealth consult or see your GP.
What if I'm still sick when my certificate ends?
You can submit a new request, and the clinician will reassess you. If you’re not getting better, or your symptoms are getting worse, book a telehealth consult or see your GP. For severe symptoms, call 000.
Can I use a 1–2 day certificate for carer's leave?
Yes. In the symptom details on the form, say that you need the certificate as a carer and who you’re caring for, and the clinician will ask about them on the call. Carer’s leave covers time off to care for or support an immediate family or household member who is sick, injured or affected by an unexpected emergency. Read more about carer’s leave certificates.
Can I use it for school, uni or TAFE?
Yes, you can request a certificate for school, university or TAFE. For special consideration on exams or assessments, check your institution’s rules first. Some require their own form, or need you to be assessed by a certain date. If your institution needs its own form, mention it when you request a certificate. The clinician can complete it at no extra cost if a certificate is clinically appropriate. We can’t guarantee any institution will accept a certificate. Read more about medical certificates for uni and TAFE.
Can I get a certificate if I'm too sick to travel or attend an event?
Yes. The form includes travel and events. We don’t provide documentation for travel insurance claims, and whether a certificate helps you get a refund depends on the airline or venue’s own rules, so check those before you request one.
What happens if my request isn't approved?
If the clinician decides a certificate isn’t clinically appropriate, they’ll explain why and suggest what to do next, such as seeing someone in person. The fee covers your clinical assessment, so it isn’t refunded just because a certificate wasn’t issued. This doesn’t affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
How much does a 1–2 day medical certificate cost?
It costs $24.95, paid when you submit the form. There’s no card surcharge: the price shown is the price you pay. Medical certificates aren’t covered by Medicare, so there’s no rebate.
Do I need a Medicare card?
No. A Medicare card isn’t needed for a medical certificate. You’ll be asked for your name, date of birth, email, mobile number and payment details.
